PRIMARY FUNCTION: Promote student success, provide preventative service, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses the academic, career and personal/social development of all students

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

Required Master’s degree in School Counseling or master’s degree in equivalent field of study, Must hold or be eligible or S-5 certification in school counseling; Two (2) years of experience in counseling students as individuals and groups preferred.

Provides school and system support through effective school counseling program and support for educational programs

2.

Provides responsive services to students through the effective use of individual and small-group counseling, consultation, and referral skills.

      3.

Implements school counseling curriculum through the use of effective instructional skills and careful planning of structure group sessions for all students.

      4.

Conducts individual counseling with students.

      5.

Conducts group counseling with students in the areas of educational, career, and personal/social needs.

      6.  

Coordinates with administration to provide supportive and instructional classroom activities that relate to student educational, career, and personal/social needs.

    7.

Coordinates and assists administration with standardized testing.

    8. 

Ensures that all students receive appropriate career readiness advisement

    9.

Ensures that all students receive appropriate college readiness advisement

    10.

Consults with school staff on student problems and concerns as needed or as requested

    11. 

Consults with parents on student problems and concerns as needed or requested.

    12.

Promotes the use of community resources in meeting student needs.

    13.     

Engages in professional development activities, workshops, and conferences.

    14.

Evaluates transcripts and review records in order to advise students and faculty members about course selections and placement.

    15.

Coordinates the master schedule for 6-12 students.

Maintains confidentiality.

    17.

Assists identified team with honors programs and graduation

    18.

Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.

    19.

Coordinates and inputs all data regarding registration and scheduling.

    20. 

Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.

  1. Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and community is required. High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation are essential attributes. Ability to speak and present in front of small and large groups. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong planning, organization, and leadership skills.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS


Position requires mostly sitting, standing, and walking. Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and kneeling are required, with weights not normally to exceed twenty (20) pounds.
