PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Paraprofessional’s goal is to assist and work under the supervision of the teacher and other staff to maximize the impact of an effective and positive education of children.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. The Paraprofessional will be a professionally qualified educator with a clearance certificate from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. A high school diploma and the GACE paraprofessional exam are required unless the paraprofessional has two years of college or 60 semester hours of college coursework.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.

Assists teacher in maintaining an effective learning environment.

2.

Follows teacher’s directions to maintain a clean and orderly learning environment.

      3.

Effectively monitors behavior according to behavior modification and intervention plans.

      4.

Maintains awareness of students’ whereabouts and assignments.

      5.

Provides tutoring and assisting of supervision of students during small groups and large groups in order to help them master reading and math assignments and reinforce learning concepts,

      6.  

Continuously monitors the health and safety of students and becomes familiar with behaviors and disabilities

    7.

Assists in direct academic, supportive, and functional instruction to students as directed by the assigned teacher.

    8. 

Makes or modifies instructional materials as directed by the assigned teacher within the established timeframes.

    9. 

Operates office equipment as needed to produce program-related materials.

  10. 

Reteaches small class groups about a simple understanding, skill, or concept.

  11.

Assist with documentation and organization of materials as directed by the assigned teacher.

  12.

Consistently complies with departmental regulations on confidentiality.

    13. 

Refer parents to the assigned teacher when there are questions or concerns.

    14.

Display appropriate interpersonal skills with teacher, staff, and parents.

  16.

Reports to assigned classrooms and duty stations according to the school schedule.

    17.

Dress professionally for the job.

  18.

Attend professional learning classes as required by the school or Teaching and Learning

  19.

Performs any and all other duties as assigned by the Principal and allowed by Title I.

 
 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. High school diploma and passing GACE  paraprofessional test or 60 hours of college coursework if paid on parapro salary scale.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Position requires mostly sitting, standing, and walking. Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and kneeling are required, with weights not normally to exceed thirty (30) pounds. Must be able to tolerate all types of weather conditions and must work outside on occasion.
